), one of the world's largest chemical manufacturing companies, presented Con-Way Central Express officials with their third "Partner of Choice" award at Ciba's Mobile, Ala. facility. Ciba developed the point-based award to measure a freight carrier's performance. Evaluation criteria included on-time performance, accessibility, responsible care initiatives, communication and problem resolution. Con-Way Central Express also won the award in 1997 and 1999.

"We think it is very important to recognize the excellence of our business partners," said a Ciba company official, "And Con-Way Central Express continues to provide quality service and outstanding partnering which only enhances our relationships with our customers. We hold our carriers to very stringent standards and this award is an accolade to a job well done."

Con-Way Western Express also received notice as an outstanding carrier from the Ryder Transportation Management group, a global leader in supply chain and transportation management solutions. Ryder's "Carrier Quality Award" was given to Con-Way Western Express in the less-than-truckload category for Ryder's Western region. A Ryder national selection committee evaluated carriers on several criteria, including customer service, on-time performance, innovation and professionalism.

"We depend on high quality service from our carriers and we sincerely appreciate the outstanding effort put forth by Con-Way Western Express in 2000," said a Ryder company official. "In the coming year, we look forward to growing the business partnership between our two companies." David S. McClimon, president and chief executive officer of Con-Way Western Express formally accepted the Ryder award on behalf of CWX in June.

Con-Way Western Express was also the recipient of a performance award from Toyota's North American Parts Operation (NAPO), which CWX accepted at a meeting among NAPO officials and their logistics partners in early April.

CWX was among four LTL carriers considered for the award. Each carrier was assessed on communications, on-time performance, damage minimums and cost control based upon their actual performance and a survey conducted among NAPO field and logistics personnel.

"Con-Way Western has been a very dependable partner for our logistics operations, " said a Toyota official. "We depend very heavily on our partners and Con-Way Western Express more than met our expectations. Their performance this past year has been outstanding."

CCX and CWX are component companies of Con-Way Transportation Services, a $2.1 billion transportation and services company that provides time-definite and day-definite freight delivery, logistics, and e-business consulting services for commercial and industrial businesses.
