CON-WAY CENTRAL EXPRESS OPENS NEW HILLSBORO SERVICE CENTER
Regional, Next-Day Trucking Co. Serves Expanding
 Needs of Area Businesses
HILLSBORO, Ohio, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Con-Way Central Express (CCX), a Midwest regional trucking company, has completed construction of a new service center in Hillsboro that nearly doubles the size of its previous facility.
The new service center, which has opened at 5215 U.S. Route 50 West in Hillsboro, is located on a three acre parcel, has 24 loading doors for processing freight shipments and a dock area of nearly 7,000 square feet, according to Chuck Grunenwald, Hillsboro service center manager.
The Hillsboro facility is a key service center in the CCX system and will help the company meet the growing demand for regional trucking services in Hillsboro and the surrounding suburbs in southern Ohio, Grunenwald noted.
"Customers are demanding consistent, next-day service because more and more of them are using 'just-in-time' inventory techniques -- in manufacturing and retailing -- that require frequent, timely shipments," Grunenwald said.
"Our growth has been driven by our service. As the economy grows and our customers produce and ship more products we'll be well- positioned to handle that growth."
The Hillsboro service center is the southern Ohio link to CCX's regional trucking network, which encompasses more than 35,000 communities across 11 Midwestern states, and specializes in expedited next-day delivery for commercial and industrial freight shipments.
CCX opened its first Hillsboro facility in May 1989 at 5361 U.S. Route 50 with five employees and a fleet of three tractors and nine trailers. Today, the Hillsboro center employs 17 people and operates a fleet of seven tractors and 17 trailers. The Hillsboro center serves some 300 manufacturers, suppliers and retailers in an area including Hillsboro and points north to Washington Court House, south to Maysville, Ky., east to Chillicothe, and west to Wilmington. CCX serves the state of Ohio through a network of 16 service centers including the new Hillsboro facility.
Local customers include PCP Inc., Mac Tool, and Kenworth. Among the types of products transported are automotive parts, hospital equipment, paper products, heavy duty truck parts and building materials.
CCX, founded in June 1983, is one of four regional overnight trucking units of Con-Way Transportation Services (CTS), a trucking and intermodal freight services company based in Menlo Park, Calif.
CTS's other regional carriers are Con-Way Western Express, Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; Con-Way Southern Express, Charlotte, N.C.; and Con-Way Southwest Express, Fort Worth, Texas. CTS also operates Fort Worth-based Con-Way Intermodal.
