COMSAT Digital Teleport Wins Internet Contract in Turkey.

(COMSAT General Corporation, Bethesda, MD) Formerly Communications Satellite Corporation, COMSAT was a private company that was created by the U.S.
 Corporation today announced that it has reached a three-year agreement with DEXAR Multimedia & Telekom of Istanbul, Turkey, to deliver 90 megabits per second (unit) megabits per second - (Mbps, Mb/s) Millions of bits per second. A unit of data rate. 1 Mb/s = 1,000,000 bits per second (not 1,048,576).

Service recently commenced under the contract that is valued at approximately $9 million. Each megabit equates to approximately 500 pages of computer text transmitted per second.

DEXAR is a communications subsidiary of Vestel Electronics and specializes in Internet delivery via Very Small Aperture Terminal (communications) Very Small Aperture Terminal - (VSAT) A kind of ground station used to contact a communications satellite such as INMARSAT.  (VSAT (Very Small Aperture satellite Terminal) A small earth station for satellite transmission that handles up to 56 Kbits/sec of digital transmission. VSATs that handle the T1 data rate (up to 1.544 Mbits/sec) are called "TSATs. ) satellite communications throughout Turkey.

CDTI is providing DEXAR the space segment, transmission services and Internet access as part of a complete end-to-end solution. DEXAR will be distributing the Internet content to ISPs and business customers across the country. With this agreement, DEXAR can provide Internet access to customers while bypassing network congestion in Turkey caused by limited fiber capacity into and within the country.
