COMPUTERWORLD ON CD TO BE RELEASED FOR SONY MULTIMEDIA CD-ROM PLAYER

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Computerworld today announced that Computerworld on CD, a quarterly compilation containing complete text and selected graphics from the newspaper's preceeding four years, is now available for use on Sony's portable Multimedia CD-ROM Player. The announcement was made at the Intermedia Conference and Exposition in conjunction with Dataware Technologies, Emerging Technology Applications (ETA) and Sony Corporation of America.
Computerworld on CD is the first high technology title to be available for the Multimedia Player. The title appeals to consumers and business professionals alike who need quick, instant access to critical news and facts on the information technology market.
Complimentary copies of Computerworld on CD for the Multimedia Player will be distributed at Intermedia by Sony and Dataware Technologies at booths 1304 and 1814 respectively.
At a subscription price of $295.00 per year, updated quarterly, this title covers four years (1989-1992) worth of full text and graphics for Computerworld, the newspaper of Information Systems Management. The premier 100, a structures database which details and rates the most effective users of technology since 1988 is also included. Over 260 companies are covered.
In commenting on the venture, Computerworld president and Publisher Gary Beach said, "this exciting technology creates yet another highly portable way for Computerworld's subscribers and marketing partners to have quick access to a very powerful news source on information systems."
Paul Earl, president of ETA, said, "Computerworld on CD features cross-platform compatibility (DOS, Windows, and multimedia Player environments) thus leveraging previous development efforts with Dataware. Additionally, CDs or portions of them already developed with various IDG companies in the editorial, research and circulation areas could easily be converted for the Multimedia Player."
Subsequent releases of Computer world on CD could include audio and animation. Earl further notes, "the potential to develop many more titles for internal use (media kits, audit statements, circulation databases) as well as for retail distribution represents an exciting opportunity to establish a leading position in providing job critical information products using Sony's fully portable, multimedia CD-ROM technology.
Computerworld is the weekly newspaper serving information systems executives responsible for the enterprise-wide computer and networking technology. ETA is an electronic publishing and database marketing company. Both companies are part of the International Data Group, the world's leader in information services on information technology.
Dataware Technologies is a leading software and service organization in the CD-ROM industry. Dataware software is used by over 300 organizations world-wide, who distribute a total of more than 400 CD-ROM titles to over 50,000 end-users.
