The vehicles originally were expected to go to the Mexican town of Poncitlan, Palmdale's sister city, but that arrangement didn't work out.

``They had to get them out of the state,'' said Palmdale Rotary Club treasurer Chuck Medicus said.

The Ensenada Rotary Club will turn the vehicles over to a church school, Purisimo Corazon de Maria School, which is in a hilltop neighborhood overlooking Ensenada's port. The school will either use the vehicles itself or raffle them off, Joyce said.

The computers, which were older models that Lancaster Community Hospital no longer needed, will be used to equip a computer center in the school, Joyce said.

Mexican law requires anyone bringing a vehicle into the country to pay a fee of $600, Rotary Club members said. Ensenada Rotary President Elsa Cortes is negotiating with Mexican government officials to have the fee waived for the three donated vehicles.

The three vehicles, loaded with the hospital computers, will be driven to Mexico as soon as the Ensenada Rotarians get the import fee worked out, Joyce said.
