COMPUTER ASSOCIATES ANNOUNCES MAJOR BUSINESS VENTURE IN SOUTH AFRICA; Partners With Leading Information Technology Firm To Market CA Software In Southern African and Sub-Saharan Regions.


Computer Associates International, Inc. announced a major investment in a new business venture in South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa. . Conducting business under the banner "Computer Associates Africa," the venture is jointly owned and managed by CA and Dimension Data Holdings Limited, a leading South African technology company. Computer Associates Africa will be headquartered in Johannesburg, with major branch offices in Durban and Cape Town Cape Town or Capetown, city (1991 pop. 854,616), legislative capital of South Africa and capital of Western Cape, a port on the Atlantic Ocean. It was the capital of Cape Province before that province's subdivision in 1994. .

All of CA's client/server, midrange and mainframe software, including its recently acquired Legent Corporation line of products, will be marketed and serviced by the newly formed company throughout the Southern African and sub-Saharan regions, which are experiencing explosive economic and information technology growth.

CA software is already established in the region under Compusons (Pty.) Limited, which over the past decade operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dimension Data. Now, all CA software will be marketed under the Computer Associates Africa banner.

"Our major investment in Africa reflects our continued and expanded commitment to growing international software markets," said Wang. "South Africa's impressive economic turnaround is fueling fast growth in client/server computing throughout the region, and CA is fully prepared to meet client demand."

South Africa's economic resurgence has made it the 20th largest IT market worldwide, with technology spending for 1995 estimated at $3.5 billion (U.S.). Computer Associates Africa will be directly and closely supported by CA's worldwide financial, business and technological resources. CA expects clients to greatly benefit from increased local support capabilities, including active participation in conferences for IT managers and chief executive officers.
