COMPUSERVE TO SPLIT FROM H&R BLOCK.

H&R Block Inc. said Tuesday that it would spin off CompuServe Inc., its on-line subsidiary, from its tax preparation business, creating two public companies.

H&R Block, based in Kansas City Kansas City, two adjacent cities of the same name, one (1990 pop. 149,767), seat of Wyandotte co., NE Kansas (inc. 1859), the other (1990 pop. 435,146), Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties, NW Mo. (inc. 1850). , Mo., said its board had approved a plan to sell less than 20 percent of CompuServe in an initial public offering in April.
