 COMPUSERVE MEMBERS SNEAK INTO HOLLYWOOD
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The leading worldwide

network of personal computer users and Universal Pictures will give a new movie a high tech send-off with a unique joint promotion.
"Sneakers," starring Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, Mary McDonnell, River Phoenix, Sidney Poitier, and David Strathairn, is a caper film about an unusual group of specialists who are hired to break into places to test their security. Scheduled for national release on Sept. 11, "Sneakers" will open in exclusive engagements in eight major markets on Sept. 9.
In cooperation with CompuServe Incorporated, the leading worldwide online communication and information service, one million personal computer users will be invited to visit the Sneakers online headquarters where there are a variety of activities.
"CompuServe members have the opportunity to become intricately involved with the movie," said Regina Brady, CompuServe's director of customer promotion. "Not only will they be able to read about the film and speak directly with the filmmakers, but they also can BREAK THE CODE in an online game which was inspired by the action in 'Sneakers.'"
In BREAK THE CODE, CompuServe members must solve a series of three anagrams, thereby discovering the passwords that will move them through different levels of security. Prizes for the online contest include a "Sneak Into Hollywood" trip for two, Robert Redford's jacket from the film, special advance screening passes to see the film in major markets across the country, and 600 other prizes.
In addition, CompuServe's ShowBiz and Literary forums will give members the opportunity to read production notes and plot summaries for the film, download photographic images of the stars, and send electronic mail to writer-director Phil Alden Robinson and writers-producers Walter Parkes and Larry Lasker (who also wrote "WarGames"), with specific questions about the making of the action caper.
Shortly after the film's debut, Lasker, Parkes, and Robinson will participate in an online conference in CompuServe's Convention Center. CompuServe members will meet online in the Convention Center at a designated time, key-in comments and questions, and receive immediate responses from the moviemakers.
CompuServe members pay $12.80 an hour to access the Sneakers area at modem speeds of up to 2400 bits per second. Members pay $7.95 a month for a group of basic services and $12.80 an hour for CompuServe's other 1,700 areas, such as Sneakers. The Sneakers promotion will last through mid-October.
The CompuServe Information Service offers its members electronic mail, personal computing support, news services, personal investment information, home shopping, entertainment, and computer games. CompuServe Incorporated also provides electronic mail, database access, frame relay, systems integration, software, and wide and local area network services to major U.S. corporations and government agencies.
