 COMPTEK RESEARCH ANNOUNCES DATAMOVER 2000
 ORDER FROM CHINA
BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Comptek Research, Inc. (AMEX/BSE: CTK) announced today announced that its joint venture affiliate, Bison Data Corporation, has received an initial order for 150 DataMover(TM) 2000 communications units for the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), the People's Republic of China's largest bank with 30,000 branch offices throughout the country.
The agreement was signed on Oct. 30, 1992, by ICBC and Valdacom, Inc., Bison's distributor for China. Bison Data is a joint venture which is 31 percent owned by Comptek Research. Comptek is the sole manufacturer of the DataMover 2000 system, and will be building all of the units sent to China.
Comptek will be manufacturing the 150 units for shipment in January 1993. While the first manufacturing requirements are valued at less than $500,000, Dr. John R. Cummings, Comptek's chairman, stated, "The potential for larger orders is very high. We believe this relationship will be the start of an exciting opportunity for the company."
"Orders for the DataMover 2000 have been strong," commented Cummings. "The 150 units are approximately five percent of the total number of DataMover 2000 units Comptek expects to ship during the second half of the company's fiscal year, which ends March 31, 1992. The worldwide need for sophisticated communications is growing rapidly. DataMover's reliability, low cost, wireless platform, and state-of-the- art electronics has made it a very attractive product, particularly in developing countries."
DataMover incorporates patented technology and utilizes radio waves to cost-effectively transmit data that previously required land-based telephone lines. The current primary application of the product is in conjunction with automated bank teller machines (ATMs). With DataMover's wireless transmission approach, networks can be constructed in areas where telephone access is impractical or prohibitively expensive. Quality, efficiency, and reliability of data are enhanced.
Comptek Research, Inc., with 13 offices and subsidiary locations in the United States, is a domestic and international supplier of technically advanced electronics and data communication systems to government and industry.
