its participation in the Passport(TM) Foundry Program, a program aimed at verifying foundry process and characterizing physical libraries to ensure first-time silicon success. As a charter member of the newly formed Passport Foundry Program, CSM will build on its previous technology partnership with COMPASS and further strengthen its offerings to customers using a pure foundry business model.  to 0.35 micron and beyond, the two companies will work under the Passport Foundry Program to characterize silicon for these advanced processes.

"We have partnered with CSM since COMPASS was founded in 1991 and have developed successful library products at the 0.8-, 0.6-, and 0.5-micron geometries," said Ken Brock, business development manager at COMPASS. "The Passport Foundry Program formalizes our commitments with CSM to support mutual customers and to assure that our libraries continue to accurately reflect CSM's silicon performance, now and into the future."

CSM and COMPASS also announced the signing of a three-year joint marketing agreement which encompasses mutual customer support and testchip model extraction. Under the Passport Foundry Program, CSM and COMPASS will jointly run testchips to ensure silicon performance and manufacturability.

"COMPASS is recognized as the leader in library development and we currently have many successful mutual customers," said Steve Della Rocchetta, vice president of sales and marketing at CSM. "Formalizing our long-standing relationship with COMPASS is a natural extension of our cooperation and will allow us to work more closely with COMPASS in the future, providing our customers with a reliable and time-efficient design and manufacturing strategy."

Under terms of the Passport Foundry Program, Chartered Semiconductor will work with COMPASS on the following:

-- Proof of multi-foundry manufacturing compatibility

-- Multi-foundry silicon performance within the Passport standard

-- Performance linked to silicon using the COMPASS testchip set in joint development with Meta-Software's Meta-Labs

-- Passport Foundry Visa(TM) - joint development of comprehensive tapeout and tooling specifications per process per foundry

-- COMPASS and CSM working together to support mutual customers

-- Foundry design rule and SPICE model version tracking
