COMPAQ EXPANDS LINE OF WIRELESS-READY NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS.


Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) has launched several new wireless-ready Evo and Presario notebook computers.

The sleek, new Presario 2800, Evo Notebook N800v and Evo Notebook N800c all feature the power of the mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor -M, as well as the performance of Compaq's MultiPort wireless solution to provide customers the mobile freedom to stay connected to their information anytime, anywhere.

MultiPort provides users the convenience to access the Internet or their enterprise network without cables. Available in either an 802.11b or Bluetooth module, MultiPort provides mobile users with greater performance than traditional wireless PC cards, as well as increased flexibility for upgrades and expansion.

Presario 2800

With a sleek, eye-catching mobile design, the powerful new Presario 2800 delivers the latest notebook technologies in a style that can easily meet the needs of any mobile users. The magnesium-enforced notebook weighs less than 5.6 pounds and measures only 1.3" thin, yet this thin-and-light design still delivers integrated wireless communications, outstanding multimedia performance and the very latest in mobile technologies at a starting price of only $1,399.

The Presario 2800 offers the widest range of powerful mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processors - M with speeds ranging from 1.4GHz to 1.8GHz. It adds advanced mobile technologies such as ATI's Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics controller (with up to 64 MB memory) to provide stunning 3D graphics capabilities, as well as a large 15" TFT display (with up to UXGA resolution) to allow users to view DVD movies, open multiple windows or deliver stunning, crisp, clear graphics and presentations.

Evo Notebook N800 Series

Designed for businesses that demand reliability and stability, the new Evo N800 series packs the power of the new mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor - M in a slim 1.3" thin design that weighs less than 5.6 pounds. Available in either a corporate/enterprise (c) or mainstream (v) version, the Evo N800 series includes the most advanced portable product features in the marketplace.

The Evo "c" class of product was designed to meet the needs of the enterprise customer and offers unsurpassed commonality, consistency and compatibility. The products will have up to 12 month life cycles to support customer deployment activities, as well as share the highest level of commonality via common options, with new simplified common docking solutions, MultiBay and software images. The "c" class also offers the highest level of customer support including a standard three year warranty, free software support for the lifetime of the warranty and a designated commercial call center. The "c" class will also offer a combination touch pad/pointstick.

The Evo "v" class of product was developed to meet the needs of the mainstream business notebook users, including small and medium sized business. This class of product provides excellent value and will have a moderate life cycle of up to six months, standard one year warranty and features a dedicated support call center.

Innovative features common to the entire Evo N800 series include: Dual battery support via the MultiBay battery to provide more than 7 hours of battery life; mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor - M with speeds up to 1.8 GHz; ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics controller (with up to 64 MB memory); and choice of up to a 15" UXGA display.
