 SAYS STORY CONTAINS NO NEW INFORMATION
 HOUSTON, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to a Reuters story reported earlier today, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) noted that the information gathered by Reuters from a recent Compaq Securities and Exchange Commission filing (Form 10-Q) was the same information that the company has been communicating since its July 22 second quarter earnings announcement and subsequent analyst meeting.
