:CPQ) and UNOVA, Inc. (NYSE:UNA) today announced a settlement of their year-long patent dispute. Terms of the settlement are confidential.

Both companies have been engaged in litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. The act or process of bringing a lawsuit in and of itself; a judicial contest; any dispute.

When a person begins a civil lawsuit, the person enters into a process called litigation.
 since February 2000 when UNOVA filed a claim against Compaq regarding UNOVA's smart battery and power management patents. Compaq filed a counterclaim alleging patent infringement by UNOVA and a separate patent infringement suit, in Houston.
