``If we didn't get this contract, we would have laid off about 10 folks. But with this contract, we're now looking to add 15 people, especially software programmers See systems programmer. ,'' said Ken Collins, vice president of the government electronics division in Woodland Hills.

The contract with the Air Force is the division's largest, single contract to date, Collins said. He noted, however, the company has previously received a few multiyear contracts ranging between $10 million to $20 million.

Next month California Microwave will begin shipping the first of 24 Stand Alone Message Processing Systems to the Air Force's Sacramento Air Logistics Center.
