COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE GEOPHYSIQUE ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER REVENUES.HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 1997--Compagnie Generale de Geophysique (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :GGY GGY Compagnie Generale de Geophysique (stock symbol) GGY Gross Gaming Yield (percentage of wagers kept by casino/gaming operator) ) today announced consolidated net sales Net Sales The amount a seller receives from the buyer after costs associated with the sale are deducted. Notes: This amount is calculated by subtracting the following items from gross sales: merchandise returned for credit, allowances for damaged or missing goods, freight of FF 953 million for the first quarter of 1997, compared with consolidated net sales of 605 million francs for the first quarter of 1996, corresponding to an increase of 32% based on an equivalent scope of consolidation and expressed in dollars. This increase was due to a high level of activity at Sercel, in land seismic acquisition and in data processing, which was partly offset by a lower level of marine seismic activity. Despite higher than anticipated consolidated net sales for the first quarter of 1997, the Company believes that, due to operating difficulties encountered in certain land operations and a temporary reduction in streamer capacity for one of its vessels in the second quarter of 1997, net income for the first half of 1997 will remain in line with original management expectations. The Compagnie Generale de Geophysique group is a global participant in the geophysical services industry, providing a wide range of seismic data acquisition and processing services and related processing and interpretation software to clients in the oil and gas exploration and production business.
