Paren, a Valencia resident and construction supervisor, was honored Monday by the City Council for helping police arrest a shooting suspect in July. Paren had just arrived at work when he observed a woman fleeing the area in her Nissan pickup truck, police Sgt. Bob Gardner said. ``He saw her leaving and thought something was up,'' Gardner said. ``(He) gave the officers a really good description of the vehicle. Then he went and found her.'' According to police, Paren caught up with the truck a few blocks away and, believing the driver was involved in a kidnapping, forced the truck to pull over. He approached the driver, who handed him a weapon. Police say the woman, 64-year-old Deloris Chartier, had just used the handgun to shoot her son-in-low twice in the chest after an argument at his house. Chartier suffered a massive heart attack while being arrested by police.
