COMMUNITY TO GATHER FOR CANDLELIGHT SERVICE.

VALENCIA - Just one week after Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  residents held a candlelight vigil A candelight vigil is an outdoor assembly of people carrying candles, held after sunset. Such events are typically held either to protest at the suffering of some marginalized group of people, or in memory of lives lost to some disease, disaster, massacre or other tragedy.  to honor their own slain deputy, flames will burn and emotions will flow tonight in memory of those who perished in last week's terrorist attack.

The vigil begins at 7 p.m. at the Sears parking lot in the Valencia Town Center, 24137 W. Valencia Blvd. After all the candles have been lighted, the group will cross the street and assemble at City Hall.

``I hope this gives people the opportunity to get together and maybe make some contacts so they don't feel so isolated,'' said Patty Miller- Marshall, a Castaic resident who helped organize the tribute.

``I hope this will give people a sense of community because we really are one. We're reaching out to each other for comfort after this tragic loss.''

Miller-Marshall said the event developed accidentally when about 20 local residents were sharing their thoughts and grief on a Web site message board.

Their need to grieve together resulted in tonight's event, which will include some brief nondenominational non·de·nom·i·na·tion·al

Miller-Marshall said a representative from the governor's office will attend, as well as local city officials.

``We want everyone to come,'' she said. ``Invite your friends and neighbors and bring candles and flags if you have them. We need to be there for each other right now, especially for our children.''
