Soccer winners: Five players - Marissa Braun, Tiffany Franz, Sonia Gordillio, Hannah Hughes and Sarah Nasholm - from the Eugene Cheetahs U12 girls soccer team placed first in the U12/13 division of the Cascade 3v3 Challenge tournament at Gresham last weekend, competing mostly against Portland-area opponents.

Golf tournament: The second annual Couples Classic is set for Sunday at Diamond Woods golf course at 96040 Territorial Highway in Monroe. The format is two-person best ball, gross and net, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start A Shotgun Start is a golf tournament format in which all groups of players tee off simultaneously from different holes. Each hole on a course will be the tee off hole for each foursome. Group 1 would start from hole 1, Group 2 from hole 2, etc. . The cost is $25 per member, $45 per non-member, including green fees, range, lunch and awards. FRIDAY - The Eugene Challenge Cross Country for Kids two-kilometer race is Friday at 4 p.m. near the bridge next to Pre's Trail Pre's Trail, located on the north side of the Willamette River in Eugene, Oregon, United States, aka "Track Town USA", is a 4-mile-long running trail named after heralded University of Oregon athlete Steve Prefontaine.  on the south side of Autzen Stadium The stadium is tucked between the Willamette River and Coburg Hills. The uniquely shaped bowl blends in with the wooded Eugene landscape. The shape also allows for unique acoustics, making it one of the loudest stadiums in NCAA Football for its capacity. . The race is free to boys and girls ages 10-18 who pre-register by Wednesday at the sponsoring Eugene Running Company store at Oakway Center. Race day registration is $10. Packet pickup will be available Thursday at the ERC (database) ERC - An extended entity-relationship model.  store and include Nike "Go Pre" T-shirts and course and parking maps. Friday check-in is from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the starting area. The girls' race begins at 4 p.m. and the boys' race at 4:15 p.m.

OAR WINNERS - Two boats from Eugene's Oregon Association of Rowers won golds at the annual Susan G. Komen for the Cure Susan G. Komen for the Cure, formerly known as The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is an organization supporting breast cancer research. Since its inception in 1982, Komen has invested nearly $1 billion in research, education and health services, making it the  breast cancer fundraiser. Placing first was Tim Piehler in the men's recreational single race, and the masters mixed eights boat with Lexy Wellman (cox), Dave Horton, Dave Lingenfelder, Lex See yacc.

SUNDAY, OCT. 28 - Monster Dash, a 5,000-kilometer run/walk to be held in conjunction with the grand opening of the orthopedic health care Slocum Center on Coburg Road in Eugene, will be covered in more detail as the event nears.

SATURDAY - Liv's Fun Run and Walk, named for 2 1/2 -year-old Olivia McCurdy of Pleasant Hill, who was killed on Highway 58 in 2003, is a fundraiser for the Pleasant Hill Pre School that she would have attended. The five-kilometer course starts at 9 a.m. at Trent Elementary School and meanders through Elijah Bristow State Park. Registration is $20 with T-shirt, $15 without. There will be age group awards, random prizes and refreshments. Register online at goodrace.com.

SATURDAY, Oct. 13 - Duck Dash and Walk, the ninth annual fundraiser for the UO Law School's Tom Foster Scholarship Fund, starts at 8:30 a.m. near the Hayward Field track, follows a five-kilometer course through the campus and ends at the law school. There will be random prizes and refreshments at the finish. Early registration through Thursday is $18 with a long-sleeve T-shirt, $12 without. Add $4 after Oct. 4.
