Juniors Whitney Bigbee and Emily Moser, sophomore Natalie Harbour and freshman Kira Millard comprise the entire Mohawk High School Mohawk High School may refer to one of these high schools in the United States:

 equestrian team. But in a sport where team size rather than school enrollment is considered for some end-of-the-season awards, 121-student Mohawk competes head to head with teams from Sheldon, North Eugene, Churchill, Siuslaw and North Bend North Bend is the name of several places in the United States of America:

. All four girls compete in various individual events, with Bigbee's fourth-place finish in "Showmanship" being the group's best result at last month's South Valley Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) meet. This weekend will be the third and final local competition of the season, with 19 teams from Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  to Brookings gathering Friday through Sunday at the Oregon Horse Center on Prairie Road. Admission is free. It is in the pairs or team events that Mohawk is most likely to qualify riders for the state championships to be held in May near Medford. Bigbee and Moser team up for the "birangle" event, while all four riders spend much practice time perfecting their "working fours" drill team routine.

 Gym in Creswell were very successful last week at the National Masters Weightlifting Championships in Baton Rouge Baton Rouge (băt`ən rzh) [Fr.,=red stick], city (1990 pop. 219,531), state capital and seat of East Baton Rouge parish, SE La. , La. The local contingent returned with four individual championships, one second place, one third place and the women's team title. Gay McKinlay (65-69 age group, 75 kg. weight class), Sally Painter (50-54, 63 kg.) and Nadine Powell (50-54, 69 kg.) each won her category, while Elaine Weiss and Sara Ferris (40-44, 63 kg.) placed second and third, respectively, in their division. Christopher Edward Hansen (born March 26, 1959) is an American television journalist best known for his work on the Dateline NBC television segment To Catch a Predator.
 (55-59, 85 kg.) won his second national title. Iron Works coach Gene Joseph notes that this is Oregon's first national team championship in the sport and predicts that "we'll have an even stronger team next year."

Golf tournament: Churchill High School will host its second annual Four-Man Scramble Golf Tournament on April 30 at Diamond Woods Golf Course near Monroe. The $80-per-person entry includes an 8 a.m. shotgun start A Shotgun Start is a golf tournament format in which all groups of players tee off simultaneously from different holes. Each hole on a course will be the tee off hole for each foursome. Group 1 would start from hole 1, Group 2 from hole 2, etc. , 18 holes of golf, lunch, tee prize and cart use. City league women's rec soccer: Registration will be accepted through Friday for the City of Eugene's women's rec seven-a-side hat draw spring soccer league. Register through 6 p.m. at the Athletics office, 2700 Hilyard St. The league is designed for beginning players with an emphasis on fun and safe recreational soccer. Individuals must submit a completed form and the full individual fee of $25 at the time of registration.     SUNDAY, APRIL 24 - The third annual "Run the Gauntlet" will be held at Churchill High School. A three-fourths mile kids' cross-country run starts at 1:45 p.m. and a 5,000-meter run and two-mile fitness walk begin at 2 p.m. The adult events are $16 with T-shirt/$10 without, and the kids' run is $10/$6.     SUNDAY, MAY 1 - The Salmon Run and walk are part of the 2005 Tree Planting Festival at Oakridge. The 10,000-meter run begins (9 a.m.) and ends at the U.S. Forest Service Rigdon Ranger Station outside of town but runs through town and along Salmon Creek. The 8:30 a.m. two-mile walk is entirely along maintained forest trails. Pre-registration through April 28 is $14 for the run, $5 for the walk. Race day registration is $18/$8. T-shirts are $10.     SATURDAY, MAY 14 - The HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  Alliance 5,000-meter RiverRun and 19th annual RiverWalk start at 9 a.m. at Alton Baker Park. The fundraiser for HIV Alliance is $20 through May 8 including T-shirt and AIDS/HIV bracelet, $25 thereafter.

    SATURDAY, MAY 21 - The 27th annual Rhody Run held in conjunction with the 98th Rhododendron rhododendron (rō'dədĕn`drən) [Gr.,=rose tree], any plant of the genus Rhododendron, shrubs of the family Ericaceae (heath family) found chiefly in mountainous areas of the arctic and north temperate regions and also of the  Festival at Florence includes both 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs and will follow new courses with views of rhodys, homes and water.     SATURDAY, MAY 21 - Philomath Montessori School is sponsoring the Love of Learning Road Race, including a 10,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run/walk, 2,500-meter walk and a kids' dash. Events start at 9 a.m. at Philomath City Park, 23rd and Applegate. The course has been praised as being fast, flat and accurately marked.     FRIDAY, JUNE 3 - Registration is now open for the Eugene Challenge Mile, a public race to begin and end at the Oakway Mall. As part of the USATF-Oregon eight-event Grand Prix road race series, the Eugene Challenge Mile will include a fun kids' race at 6:45 p.m. before the featured event at 7 p.m. Participants must be 2005 USATF-Oregon members and prize money will be awarded.     SATURDAY, APRIL 16 - The 28th Roseburg to Coos Bay Relay, a 67-mile run for five-person relay teams (three legs per runner) and a 23-mile walk for four-person relay teams (two legs per walker), will benefit Camp Millennium, a summer camping experience for children living with cancer.     APRIL 22-24 - The ninth annual International Discovery Walk Festival includes events in 22 countries, the only one in the United States being in late April at Vancouver, Wash. The three-day festival includes a Children's Cultural Parade and Mayor's Friendship Walk on Friday, the Lewis & Clark Walk, Swim and Bike events on Saturday and longer walks on Sunday.     SATURDAY, APRIL 23 - The Oregon Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a United States-based non-profit organization, and its network of chapters nationwide promote research, educate, advocate on issues relating to multiple sclerosis, and organize a wide range of programs, including support for the newly  will hold its largest fundraising event, the 17th annual MS Walk, starting at 10 a.m. at Skinner Butte Park. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Each participant will walk 3.1 miles and is asked to raise a minimum of $25, although the average is more than $160.
