COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRIC CENTERS NAMES DAVID A. WAKEFIELD
 TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Community Psychiatric Centers (NYSE: CMY) today announced the election of David Anthony Wakefield to the company's board of directors. Wakefield, 45, is executive vice president, United Kingdom and European Operations.
A British citizen, Wakefield joined Community Psychiatric Centers in 1983 as director of The Priory Hospital in Roehampton, the company's first British hospital and the largest private psychiatric facility in London. He was promoted to vice president and operations director of CPC's Priory Hospitals Group (PHG) in 1985, and in 1988 was named senior vice president, managing director of PHG and a member of the PHG board. He was made executive vice president of CPC in May 1992.
Under the direction of Wakefield and PHG Chairman Desmond Kelly, M.D., the Priory Hospitals Group has grown to become the leading provider of private acute psychiatric care in Great Britain, comprising six hospitals, one dialysis unit and three managed psychiatric units. A seventh hospital under construction will open later this year, and an eighth will be developed in 1993.
"The Priory Hospitals Group has enjoyed tremendous clinical and financial success in the 12 years since CPC entered the British marketplace," said Richard L. Conte, chairman and chief executive officer. "The fact that an American company has become recognized as the premier provider of psychiatric care in Great Britain is a tribute to David's hospital management expertise and leadership skills. In particular, we take great pride in the Priory Hospital's accreditation by The Royal College of Psychiatrists and The Royal College of General Practitioners for postgraduate training of doctors."
Wakefield becomes the eighth member of CPC's board. Community Psychiatric Centers delivers psychiatric services through 50 hospitals across the United States, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. The company's stock is traded on the New York, Boston, Midwest and Pacific exchanges.
