COMMUNITY NOTEBOOK: CHAMBERS WILL EMCEE S.C. MARATHON.

Television news personality Rick Chambers has agreed to return as master of ceremonies for the eighth-annual Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Marathon on Nov. 3.

Chambers, who lives in Santa Clarita and is an anchor at KCOP-TV Channel 13, also hosted last year's marathon. He confirmed his return recently, program coordinator Lisa Medel said.

``Rick always does a fabulous job. He's very personal and knows how to work the crowd,'' Medel said. ``He's always been very involved in the community.''

See IP telephony.  Little Twits also have been added to the event. The band plays a mix of covers and classic top-40 songs, and will appear from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

As of Thursday, 1,262 participants had confirmed for either the marathon, the half-marathon, the 5K run/walk or the Kid K fun run. That total is ahead of last year's pace, and Medel said she's expecting about 2,500 - nearly 300 more than last year.

Boys 14-and-under are urged to participate in the Walt Ker five-week volleyball clinic at Spectrum Club in Valencia beginning Nov. 6 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The clinic conducts practices twice a week and finishes Dec. 11. Girls are invited to try out Saturday at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state.
