COMMUNITY NEWS VALLEY SCHOOLS GET $5,000 GRANTS.


The Getty House The Getty House is the official residence of the Mayor of Los Angeles, California, USA. It is located at 605 S. Irving Boulevard in Windsor Square, a neighborhood just east of the Hancock Park district, and located approximately five miles WNW of Los Angeles City Hall.  Foundation has awarded $5,000 grants to three San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

The funds will go to Cantara Street Elementary School in Reseda, El Oro
  • El Oro Province, Ecuador
  • El Oro (municipality), Mexico State, Mexico
  • El Oro de Hidalgo
  • El Oro Mine
 Way Elementary School in Granada Hills and Noble Avenue Elementary School in North Hills.

Cantara will use the funds to train parents on laptop computers so they can help their children with schoolwork.

El Oro will receive cash for its program to help connect students with attention deficit disorder attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder (ADD or ADHD)

LA CRESCENTA - The philanthropic arm of SBC (1) (SBC Communications Inc., San Antonio, TX, www.sbc.com) A large, national telecommunications company that grew from a multitude of local and regional companies, including Southwestern Bell, Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, into a single, unified brand by 2002.  Communications Inc. has awarded more than $22,000 in scholarships to six La Crescenta and La Canada Flintridge students.

The local students were among 1,900 youths who received more than $5 million in college scholarships to help offset rising college tuition rates.

Recipients include Eleanor Chen, David Kim and Kunal Gonga of La Canada Flintridge; and Ryan Stoddard, Diana Pedder and Alyssa Bolsey of La Crescenta.

Since 1993, the SBC Foundation has invested a total of $35 million in student scholarships, providing financial assistance to more than 4,000 students.

SYLMAR - The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a three-year, $322,000 grant to Los Angeles Mission College Los Angeles Mission College is a two-year community college located in Sylmar, California neighborhood of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley, United States. The grant will fund a program called TRAILS, or Team Research Approach in Laboratory Science. The grant will equip biology and chemistry labs with high-tech research instruments and will allow 10 promising students each summer to get ``real world'' experience in biomedical research by working as paid interns for university instructors or researchers at private companies.

The Agoura/Oak Park Chamber of Commerce has selected insurance agent Don Liebman as recipient of the Penland Award as best citizen.

Liebman began his insurance career in 1966 and for 19 years has led production in California as a State Farm agent. He also has been an athletic coach for more than 15 years, a chamber member for 34 years and a past board member of The Wellness Community.
