COMMUNITY NEWS THINGS GOING SWIMMINGLY IN QUEST TO RAISE MONEY FOR CALMONT SCHOOL'S.


TOPANGA - Students at Calmont School raised $16,350 during their annual swimathon to support nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County.

 swam 1,336 laps toward the school's total of 5,408 laps. Students also are involved in nine monthly service projects that benefit organizations in Topanga and the metropolitan area.

The school serves preschool through eighth-grade students.

Jennifer Leao of North Hollywood has been sworn into the AmeriCorps, National Civilian Community Corps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), or AmeriCorps*NCCC is an AmeriCorps program in which 18 to 24-year-olds dedicate 10 months to address national and community needs. .

Leao was selected from thousands of applicants to join the group of young people, 18-24, in the 10-month national service program committed to meeting community needs.

Members are assigned to one of five campuses in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and complete 1,700 hours of community service through their 10-month terms. New members began their first project this month.

Leao's first project is working in Lancaster, Pa., with the Lancaster County Lancaster County is the name of four counties in the United States:
  • Lancaster County, Nebraska
  • Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
  • Lancaster County, South Carolina
  • Lancaster County, Virginia
 Conservancy to restore 173 acres of rare plants called serpentine at the Rock Springs Nature Preserve. She will then move to trail maintenance work.

Hilary Gushwa, 21, of Moorpark has won the Miss Ventura County 2005 title. She also won the Top Talent award in the October pageant with her piano performance.

Gushwa attends the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles.

When she was 16, Gushwa created her own nonprofit organization Heart2Heart to raise funds for leukemia research and to get people registered on the National Bone Marrow Registry.

THOUSAND OAKS - California Lutheran University Mission statement
The University's mission statement is as follows:

Seniors who were named princesses and princes were Lindsay Elliott of Irvine; Lauren Habib of Thousand Oaks; Ashley Reagan of Sherman Oaks; Brian Roberts of Las Vegas, Mark Nielsen of Santa Maria and Ryan Lisk of King City.
