COMMUNITY NEWS LEADERSHIP STUDY IS GOAL OF STUDENT'S VISIT TO D.C.


Matthew Foster, a student at Holmes International Middle School in Northridge, will participate in April in the People to People World Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. Foster will earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of America's most prominent monuments and institutions.

Foster was nominated based on his outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential. As well as visiting places like the Smithsonian Institution, Colonial Williamsburg and the National Museum of American History The National Museum of American History is a museum administered by the Smithsonian Institution and located in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall. It opened in 1964 as the Museum of History and Technology and adopted its current name in 1980. , Foster will participate in small-group discussions and exercises to experience how leaders develop strategies and make decisions firsthand.

Edison International awarded four scholarships to Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  high school graduates as part of their annual scholarship program. Each scholarship is worth $2,500.

The recipients are Saugus High graduates Tommy MacLennan Jr., an engineering major at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona History
W.K. Kellogg develops Arabian horse ranch
W.K. Kellogg, known for his famous Corn Flakes, had a life long passion for Arabian horses. After purchasing 377 acres at a cost of $25,000 USD, Kellogg developed the land into a world-renowned Arabian horse ranch.

LaKeisha Smith of Valencia High School, a business major at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , also received a scholarship.

Darren Van Dyk of Van Nuys recently completed the California Highway Patrol's cadet training, and has been assigned to the agency's West Valley area office.

Van Dyk is a graduate of Alemany High School and California State University, Northridge. He worked as a retail store manager before joining the CHP.
