COMMUNITY NEWS HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS GRANT FOR CSUN SENIORS' FINAL FILMS.


The Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave the California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , Cinema and Television Arts Department a $50,000 grant for student aid and scholarships.

The grant will fund senior film projects that are required for graduation and screened each spring during CSUN's student film showcase.

``Our students have to come up with their own money to make their films,'' said professor Nate Thomas, who heads the university's film option. ``This gift literally means the difference between our students' dreams and the realization of those dreams.''

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association hosts the Golden Globe Awards and has donated more than $6.5 million to charities over the past 12 years.

Joshua C. Ray of Canoga Park will attend California State University, Long Beach, as a President's Scholar in the upcoming Fall semester, the university announced.

Ray was selected for the four-year scholarship -- worth $35,000 -- from among more than 600 students statewide.

Ray, who plans to study psychology, was a valedictorian at Los Angeles Baptist High School Los Angeles Baptist High School is a Christian, independent, coeducational day school located in Sepulveda, California with approximately 962 students enrolled in grades 7 through 12. . He will be one of 50 valedictorians and National Merit Scholars from around the state starting at CSULB in the Fall.

Samsung Electronics has named Ashley Holtz, a senior at Paraclete High School Paraclete High School is a Catholic High School in Lancaster, CA operated independently of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. 186 seniors graduated in the 2006-2007 school year.  in Lancaster, as one of 99 finalists nationwide for the Samsung American Legion Scholarship.

Nine of the 99 will earn $20,000 scholarships.

Holtz was nominated based on her academics, school and community involvement and financial need. She's a National Merit Scholar who finished first in her graduating class and is active in her school's mock trial team.

Holtz also is a violinist who volunteers with the Acton Agua Dulce Arts Council music program. She aspires to be an attorney.
