COMMUNITY NEWS GIRL GETS SCOUT HONOR FOR SAVING FATHER.


Emily Menart, 15, of Sunland received the Girl Scout Medal of Honor Medal of Honor

 for helping to save her father's life. Emily's father, Boris Menart, had a heart attack late last year, and Emily's quick action helped him get crucial medical attention.

Menart was driving Emily to school on Nov. 10 when he suffered chest pains near Roscoe and Reseda boulevards. "Bringing such a controversial issue to the screen has enlightened many people about what pain and suffering there is to conceal a part of an individual's identity, to be afraid to embrace completely the freedom that's one's right, and to feel shameful and isolated for one's differences," Linton said.

The society was organized (1890) at Washington, D.C. , won first place in the statewide American Heritage literature contest for her short story "Life's Heritage of Freedom" about her grandfather and the home in which she grew up. She also placed second in the poetry competition for her poem "What Bell is This?"
