It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , gave three former students the Distinguished Alumni Award at a banquet at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel.

The school's highest alumni honor went to retired FBI official Grant Ashley, music-industry executive and former California lieutenant governor Mike Curb and telecommunications executive Mory Ejabat.

The award is for ``those whose achievements place them at the summit of their professions,'' the university said. Past honorees include actor Cheech Marin and astronaut Scott Horowitz.

Ashley was the FBI's executive assistant director of law enforcement services, the bureau's second-highest post. After becoming a special agent in 1980, he investigated white-collar and violent crime cases in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, then oversaw operations in San Diego, San Francisco and Las Vegas. He retired from the bureau this year.

Curb, chairman of Curb Records, was elected lieutenant governor in 1978. He served one term, then returned to the recording industry. Billboard magazine recognized Curb Records as the Country Music Label of the Year in 2001.

Ejabat is co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Zhone Technologies, a telecommunications equipment company based in Oakland. Before co-founding Zhone, he held senior management positions with Ascend Communications, which Lucent Technologies bought in 1999. Last year, he pledged $1 million to CSUN's college of engineering and computer science.
