The week, traditionally the period when clubs across the country celebrate their year-round mission of service to youth, will feature events held at Calvert Elementary School Calvert Elementary School is one of 36 public primary schools in the Lincoln Public Schools school district of Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. It contains a computer lab, band room, gymnasium, library, and cafeteria (which doubles as an intramural event center). in Woodland Hills and Columbus Middle School in Canoga Park. ``The club is a safe haven for our members, a place to have fun, make friends and participate in character-building programs and activities,'' said Robert J. Gross, the executive director of the club. ``Our goal is to let the community know how important this club is to the community,'' said Bob Rosenweig a club board member. ``We want to grow and allow a place for children whose parents may work during the day or who may even come from broken homes.'' Although he is not expected to attend, Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington's words accent the annual celebration. As the national spokesman for the club, Washington's advertising campaign says, ``We can either invest in the lives of our children today, or pay for the tragedy of their failure in the future.'' Investing in the lives of children is one of the goals of the club. Gross says while the club is fortunate to have someone like Washington speak out for America's youth, volunteers are always welcome and needed. Other activities taking place this week include the drawing of a mural and ``Bring a Buddy Day.'' The week will culminate with a Saturday trip to Disneyland by more than a thousand club members and staff.
