student Annoushka Ranaraja will attend the 2006 Congressional Student Leadership Conference next week at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., where she'll attend briefings and discussions with national and international leaders and take part in leadership workshops.

Ranaraja has high grades, does extra-curricular activities with her cheer team West Coast Rush, and volunteers with the Special Olympics and her church, St. Joseph the Worker in Winnetka.

She also earned the President's Award when she graduated from junior high and holds the Girl Scouts' Silver Award.

``I'm very proud of her because she has a lot on her plate,'' said Ranaraja's mother, Simone Ranaraja. ``She's taking a lot of advanced placement and honors classes, she's the captain of her competitive cheer team, all the volunteer work she does, and she still manages to maintain her grades.''

The leadership conference is designed to foster leadership in youth from around the world and has served nearly 40,000 students from more than 50 countries since 1989.
