Super Bulb Swap slated for seniors

NEWHALL - Seniors are invited to attend the Super Bulb Swap anytime between 8 a.m. and noon Thursday at the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. Those who bring their old, incandescent light bulbs will receive free, new energy-efficient light bulbs (a one- for-one trade-in for up to 10 bulbs). Consumers can save up to 75 percent in energy costs with these new light bulbs. The Super Bulb Swap is sponsored by the Community Energy Partnership. Minefield-issues fundraiser on tap

VALENCIA - Unitarian Universalist Church of the Santa Clarita Valley will sponsor Night of 1,000 Dinners, a benefit for the Adopt-A-Minefield Foundation, at 7 p.m. Friday at the Valencia Hills Clubhouse, 24060 Oak Vale Drive, Valencia. The Adopt-A-Minefield Foundation promotes awareness of minefield issues, financing the clearing of old minefields and providing support for land-mine victims. The organization is best known as the charity group promoted by Paul McCartney Noun 1. Paul McCartney - English rock star and bass guitarist and songwriter who with John Lennon wrote most of the music for the Beatles (born in 1942)

Saugus boutique at renovated gym

SAUGUS - The 16th annual Saugus Boutique Fantastique will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the newly renovated Saugus High School Saugus High School may refer to:

With more than 80 vendors, there will be a variety of items for sale - including handmade crafts, artwork, stained glass stained glass, in general, windows made of colored glass. To a large extent, the name is a misnomer, for staining is only one of the methods of coloring employed, and the best medieval glass made little use of it.  and commercial products for holiday gift-giving and decorating. Celebration set for region's oaks

CANYON COUNTRY - The city of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  will hold an Oak Tree Celebration to observe the importance of native oak trees to the community from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Canyon Country Park, 17615 W. Parents to learn about drug testing

SANTA CLARITA - DADS (Dads & Moms Against Drugs) will hold a meeting for parents and their teens from 7 to 8:30 tonight in the Century Room at Santa Clarita City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd. DADS is a voluntary, random drug-testing program designed as a tool to deter drug use. It is not meant to be punitive, but is intended to give kids a convenient excuse when pressured by their peers to try or use drugs and alcohol. It also gives parents an opportunity for treatment and intervention if needed.

Testing is free and test results are completely confidential. Informational meetings are held quarterly and feature guest speakers to educate and update parents and their kids on new drug trends, signs and symptoms.  Novy of Valencia graduated from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies' Junior Executive Course in Honolulu on Thursday. Novy joined 20 other military and civilian government leaders from six countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region who attended the four-week course to study regional security. Auditions slated for 'Charlie' roles

NEWHALL - The Canyon Theatre Guild Theatre Guild

U.S. theatrical society. Founded in New York City in 1918 by Lawrence Langner (1890–1962) and others, the group proposed to produce high-quality, noncommercial plays.
 will hold open auditions for ``Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'' from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 28 and 29 at the Repertory East Playhouse, 24266 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , Newhall. The role of Willy Wonka has already been cast, but actors of all ages are needed for other roles.

Those interested in auditioning can attend a workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, also at the Rep, and are asked to bring a copy of the script (available at www.dramaticpublishing.com) or a copy of the book.

Calendar's theme healthy air in '06

The South Coast Air Quality Management District The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), formed in 1976, is the air pollution agency responsible mainly for regulating stationary sources of air pollution for most of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside County, and all of Orange county.  is creating a 2006 calendar with the theme ``Color My World With Healthy Air'' and invites children, kindergarten through high school age, to submit their artistic ideas. Thirteen winning pieces of artwork will be selected, one for each month and one for the cover. The monthly winners will receive a $50 gift check and the cover winner will receive a $100 gift check and a new bike. Each winner will have his or her winning artwork, photo, name, school and city of residence featured on their month. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 10. VALENCIA - Whole Foods Market, in association with the Food for All program, donated more than $3,100 last month to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry. The donation was a result of a grant from Food For All, a program of the Food Industry Crusade Against Hunger that fights to alleviate hunger and malnutrition. Whole Foods Market collected money through customer purchases of Food For All cards in different denominations at check-out counters. The market, located in Valencia, will also sponsor a food drive to help the Food Pantry during the holidays.
