Eugene police chief to visit with public at Bethel office

Eugene residents can visit with the city's police chief Wednesday morning at the Bethel Public Safety Station.

Chief Robert Lehner will be at the station, 464 Highway 99N, from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Members of the public can meet with the chief over coffee and pastries.

The quarterly "Meet the Chief" events are an opportunity for people to speak one-on-one with Lehner in an informal setting. For more information, call the police department's public information office at 682-5124.

Women in Colombia

is CISCAP speaker's topic

"Women Working for Peace in Colombia" is the title of a presentation by human rights activist Yaneth Maria at two events Wednesday sponsored by the Committee in Solidarity with the Central American Central America

Perez Benavides is president of Dawn of Women for Arauca Association in Colombia. The association works to defend women's rights The effort to secure equal rights for women and to remove gender discrimination from laws, institutions, and behavioral patterns.

The women's rights movement began in the nineteenth century with the demand by some women reformers for the right to vote, known as suffrage, and
 and promote peace in Colombia.

Food Not Bombs co-founder Keith McHenry will give a presentation about the history of the organization on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Lawrence 115 on the University of Oregon campus.

National group recognizes EWEB EWEB Eugene Water and Electric Board (Oregon)  for reliable service

The American Public Power Association has recognized the Eugene Water & Electric Board for providing highly reliable electric service.

EWEB was one of 48 of the nation's 2,014 public utilities to earn status as a Reliable Public Power Provider.

The certification program, inaugurated last year, judges a utility's reliability (such as low outage rate and quick restoration time average), safety, training and system improvements. EWEB won a platinum certification, the second-highest possible.

EWEB increased its reinvestment in system upgrades and maintenance after a 4.6 percent overall rate increase in 2004 to address its aging electric distribution network of poles, wires, substations and other facilities.
