Society to hold auction

Dahlias of all colors and sizes will be for sale tonight at the dahlia tuber tuber, enlarged tip of a rhizome (underground stem) that stores food. Although much modified in structure, the tuber contains all the usual stem parts—bark, wood, pith, nodes, and internodes.  auction and sale at the Campbell Senior Center, 155 High St.

The event, which begins at 7:30, is an annual fundraiser for the Lane County Dahlia Society and is open to the public.

Organic plant sale aids FOOD for Lane County

FOOD for Lane County will hold a spring plant sale Saturday and Sunday at the GrassRoots Garden, 1465 Coburg Road.

Organically grown annual vegetable, flower and herb starts, and assorted edible and ornamental perennials will be for sale.

Proceeds will benefit the agency's gardens and its efforts to grow organic food for the community.

Hat auction, concert

to help cancer care center

A hat-designing contest, fashion show and concert, hosted by Eugene/Springfield Asian, Asian-American Youth, will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the South Eugene High School South Eugene High School is a public high school located in Eugene, Oregon, United States.  to benefit the Willamette Valley The Willamette Valley (pronounced [wɪˈlæ.mɪt], with the accent on the second syllable) is the region in northwest Oregon in the United States that surrounds the Willamette River as it proceeds northward from its  Cancer Care Center.

The hats will be displayed and auctioned. There are no restrictions on types of materials used or what kind of theme the hats display. The hats will be a part of a silent auction that will take place after the `One Love' Hat-Fashion Show and Concert.

All funds go to the Willamette Valley Cancer Care Center Foundation to assist families and youth in need of medical emergency support.

Workshop on handling

aggressive dogs offered

A free workshop on how to deal with aggressive dogs will be from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Amazon Community Center, 2700 Hilyard St.

The workshop will show walkers, runners and bicyclists how to defuse de·fuse  
tr.v. de·fused, de·fus·ing, de·fus·es
1. To remove the fuse from (an explosive device).

2. To make less dangerous, tense, or hostile:
 aggression in other people's dogs.

Techniques include reading dogs' temperaments and body language, and actively using dog calming signals, directed mirroring, positive feedback loops and nonconfrontational posturing.

Field burning is topic

at Rubicon Society

Frank Bocci, a former U.S. district judge, will discuss field burning at the Rubicon Society's weekly luncheon today.

The meeting begins at noon at the Pearl Street Ice Cream Parlour and Restaurant, 1313 Pearl St. Lunch is optional.
