) today announced that its AGENT 313(R) technology for environmental restoration and remediation has been selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce ("DOC") as one of 10 innovative technologies for the Rapid Commercialization Initiative ("RCI") program.

As a key component of the Clinton Administration's efforts to encourage cooperation between federal and state governments and the private sector, the RCI program's goal is to bring environmental technologies to market more rapidly and efficiently by reducing or eliminating those barriers that currently impede market entry. By achieving rapid commercialization of environmental technologies, the program aims to strengthen the competitiveness of U.S. industry in national and international environmental markets.

Several federal and state organizations are joining with the DOC to support the initiative, including the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and , Southern States Energy Board, Western Governors' Association and the State of California Environmental Protection Agency The California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) was created in 1991 by Governor Pete Wilson, through an executive order.[1] The agency combined six board, departments, and offices into one cabinet-level office:[2]

At the White House Environmental Technologies Conference, where the RCI program was introduced in December 1994, Vice President Gore remarked, "The goal of this effort, the Rapid Commercialization Initiative, or RCI, is simple--to ensure that good ideas for environmental solutions reach the market quickly."
