COMMERCIAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION DEADLINE WILL NOT BE EXTENDED

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION DEADLINE WILL NOT BE EXTENDED
COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitchell J. Brown, registrar of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, reported today that there will not be any extension of the 1991 Commercial Vehicle License Plate period.
Brown said, "All Ohio commercial vehicle registrants must display their 1992 renewed license plates by the June 1, 1992 enforcement date." This decision was based upon processing information issued by the Ohio International Registration Plan (IRP) Processing Center in Columbus.
The IRP is an agreement among 44 states and provinces whereby a motor carrier can register commercial vehicle fleets for travel in all IRP jurisdictions by filing paperwork with the home state. The registration fees are paid to the base jurisdiction according to the percentage of miles traveled in each jurisdiction. The base jurisdiction collects the appropriate fees due to each member jurisdiction, distributes these fees accordingly and issues the IRP credentials: registration cab card, license plate, validation sticker and weight sticker. This allows the carrier to legally travel in each of these IRP jurisdictions.
Renewal instructions and applications were mailed to all 1991 registrants in February. To date, the BMV has received applications from 61 percent of last year's plate holders.
Brown strongly encourages all IRP registrants to file now and to pay their billing notices as soon as they receive them from the Processing Center.
