Its establishment, was due to the results of a government initiative as well as private efforts, and was an important landmark in the development and research in tropical medicine in in the fight against disease in the developing world. We heard how young doctors sacrificed their lives while researching disease in the field and had a hint that the School's services could be required closer to home if global warming global warming, the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth's lower atmosphere as a result of the increase in greenhouse gases since the Industrial Revolution. progresses. The lecture presented a positive impression of Empire and we may wonder why our councillors and cultural leaders have ignored that and chosen instead to emphasise only the wrongs of Empire such as slavery. We may hope that the school will feature prominently in Capital of Culture year, and so make us feel at last that we live in a responsible, grown-up grown-up adj. 1.
