COMMANDER TO TRANSFER TO D.C., DEPART PLANT 42 AIR FORCE FACILITY TO BE TURNED OVER TO NEW LEADER APRIL 6.

PALMDALE - Air Force Plant 42 Cmdr. Lt. Col. Bob Catlin will be leaving in April to take an assignment in Washington, D.C., with the agency that oversees the nation's spy satellite system.

Catlin will officially turn over command of Plant 42 on April 6 and will take an assignment as the director of contract policy at the National Reconnaissance Office Noun 1. Programs at Plant 42 include the modification work on the space shuttle fleet and the B-2 stealth bombers and the construction of the prototypes of the joint strike fighter.

Catlin was in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday and could not be reached for comment.

Succeeding Catlin will be Lt. Col. ``Becoming commander of Air Force Plant 42 is the best thing to happen in my Air Force career,'' Wright said. ``This plant's role was critical to our national defense in the past and it will be critical in the future. I am honored to play a small part in this series of events.''
