COMING UP; WATCH IT!Occupation, Tuesday, BBC BBC in full British Broadcasting Corp. Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927. 1,9pm JAMES NESBITT James Nesbitt (born January 15, 1965) is an actor from Northern Ireland who is best known for his roles in ITV's Cold Feet and the BBC's Murphy's Law as well as many television advertisements. is no stranger to controversy. He played a civil rights leader in Bloody Sunday Bloody Sunday (1905) Massacre of peaceful demonstrators in Saint Petersburg, marking the beginning of the Russian Revolution of 1905. The priest Georgy Gapon (1870–1906), hoping to present workers' request for reforms directly to Nicholas II, arranged a peaceful march and was the rule-breaking detective in Murphy's Law. Now he takes on perhaps his biggest challenge to date on TV in a controversial drama which looks closely at the Iraq war. Some of the scenes in Occupation - which runs over three nights - are certain to shock. And the script pulls no punches with Nesbitt and his fellow actors playing British soldiers tormented by the conflict and by the politics behind it. Nesbitt himself admits he has joined the anti-war lobby and is vehemently opposed to the Iraqi conflict and relished the challenge posed by the drama. Peter Bowker's writing is taut and tense and it promises to be a harrowing effort. |
