COMIC VERY SERIOUS ABOUT TECHNOLOGY.

Byline: Amy Raisin Staff Writer

CALABASAS - Actor and comedian Howie Mandel Howie Michael Mandel II (born November 29, 1955) is a Canadian comedian and actor, primarily for his roles on sitcoms and television. He is best known as Ed Flanders's young intern, Dr. Wayne Fiscus on St. , who says he turns to his children for computer help, is championing the importance of technology in schools.

Mandel has been named this year's spokesman for the Las Virgenes Unified School District Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) is a K-12 school district in north-west Los Angeles County, USA consisting of 14 public schools in the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Westlake Village, and several small portions of the West Hills section of Los Angeles.  Technology Foundation, a nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

With three children in Las Virgenes district schools, Mandel said he was happy to be this year's celebrity spokesman, succeeding comedian Sinbad, who last year helped to raise more than $70,000 for the Technology Foundation.

Fredda Hamilton, board member and technology chairwoman for the foundation, said donations from corporations and private benefactors help build a future for students and communities.

``We want our students to be as skilled as they can because computers are the century's future,'' she said.

Hamilton added that the foundation is already searching for the celebrity spokesman or spokeswoman for the 2000-01 school year.

Mandel, too, said he sees his role as helping open the world to local youngsters.

``Technology used to be an avenue to go into, but now it crosses over into everything,'' said Mandel, who spent last week in New York New York, state, United States
