, Hampton looks for a clean joke.

``It's harder. You have to be more creative,'' Hampton said. ``I'm one of the few comedians who is absolutely clean - no foul language, no sex jokes.''

Hampton will be presenting a ``clean'' comedy show at 7:30 p.m. March 1 at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th St. E. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for those 18 and under.

Also performing will be Sherri Shephard, who played the character Victoria in the WB sitcom ``Cleghorn'' and has guest-starred in ``Claude's Cribb'' on the USA Network. Shephard also will be appearing on an upcoming episode of Fox's ``Living Single.''

While he works on his comedy career, Hampton is a teacher at Buena Vista School in Palmdale. He also hosts comedy shows at Louisiana Hots, a Palmdale club.

``The kids know me as Mr. Hampton. The people from the club know me as Bone,'' Hampton said.

Hampton's show business career began with a nonspeaking role in the 1991 movie ``Necessary Roughness.'' Hampton, who was raised in Texas, was attending the University of North Texas when there was an open casting call for the movie.

``I played on all the opposing teams in the movie,'' Hampton said. ``I was the middle linebacker for the Kansas Jayhawkers.''

A year later Hampton won the college's ``The Jamie Foxx `Wanda' Competition.'' Wanda was a character in the Fox TV show ``In Living Color In Living Color is a ground-breaking sketch comedy television series which ran on the FOX Network from April 15, 1990 to May 19, 1994. Afterward, Hampton performed at a comedy club in Dallas for six months before coming to California.

How does Hampton's clean comedy go over with nightclub crowds used to sex jokes and four-letter words?

``If I get on early in the show and they are on the first and second drink, then it's OK,'' Hampton said. ``If it's their seventh or eighth drink, it's usually a tough time in the city.''
