COMCAST CHOOSES ARRIS TOUCHSTONE TELEPHONY MODEM.

Comcast has chosen the ARRIS Touchstone Telephony Modem to deploy Voice over IP (VoIP), the ARRIS carrier grade Voice over Internet Protocol, primary-line phone service in Philadelphia. In June of this year, Comcast announced that ARRIS would provide CMTS equipment in their initial deployment of residential Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service in the Philadelphia area. Comcast has deployed the ARRIS Cadant C4 CMTS.

"ARRIS continues to lead the industry in PacketCable supported products with CMTS and eMTAs at both ends of the access network," said Jim Lakin, president ARRIS Broadband business unit. "The selection of both the ARRIS CMTS and the Touchstone Telephony Modem ensures Comcast's phone service will be of the quality and reliability needed to compete with local carriers."

The Touchstone Telephony Modem is a compact, indoor embedded multimedia terminal adapter (eMTA) that enables operators to deliver two lines of telephony, tiered data and other advanced Internet Protocol (IP) services with Quality of Service capabilities, improved security requirements with the addition of Baseline Privacy Plus and data fragmentation to reduce traffic latency. The Touchstone Telephony Modem is available now for installations worldwide.

With the ARRIS Cadant C4 CMTS and the Cornerstone CMTS 1500, the Touchstone Telephony Modem is an integral part of the ARRIS CompleteVoice cable telephony solution. All three products are CableLabs DOCSIS 1.1 qualified, which ensures interoperability, service quality and reliability. The ARRIS CMTS and Touchstone Telephony Modem have also been rigorously tested as part of an end-to-end telephony over IP solution that allows operators to deploy converged IP services utilizing the PacketCable standards-based deployment model.
