Comcast Cablevision officials said one of the reasons the Weather Channel will make its debut March 31 on Channel 3 is that there have been many requests from city cable subscribers.

"The Weather Channel was one of the most requested channels from the people of Simi Valley, so we thought this was an opportunity to give them what they wanted," said Comcast spokesman Steve Rosenthal.

But the main reason for the change is a clause in a contract which prohibits Comcast from carrying the Food Channel only on a part-time basis.

The Food Channel shares the airwaves on Channel 3 with KEYT-TV from Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850. . Rosenthal said the Weather Channel agreed to share Channel 3 with KEYT, and will be shown 16 to 18 hours per day.
