COMCAST CABLE CREATES NEW JERSEY ELECTION CHANNEL FROM ESN DIGITAL NEWS SOURCE

PHILADELPHIA, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast Cable announced today it had joined a consortium to produce the first interactive digital broadcast video news service on-line.
Other members of the network include: Election Satellite Network, Reuters Television, Silicon Graphics, Vyvx, Eastern Telelogic and others.
The result of this consortium will be a unique view of the upcoming New Jersey gubernatorial campaign available on Comcast's newly created Election Channel. Election Satellite Network cameras will follow both incumbent Jim Florio and Republican challenger Christine Todd Whitman every day and film every event from the traditional Labor Day kick-off until the election Nov. 3.
Comcast will create a one-hour program each evening (Monday-Friday) with important happenings of the campaign day and cablecast to its New Jersey subscribers on the local access channels. The network also has the capability of providing live coverage of major speeches and events and Comcast/Storer customers will have up-to-the-minute and complete information via their cable service. This programming is being made available to cable operators throughout New Jersey. Broadcasters can also access the information for their nightly news program through the Reuters Television services.
According to Brian L. Roberts, president of Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: CMCSA), "The New Jersey Election Channel will give the Comcast/Storer cable subscribers the most in-depth and unfiltered information on this crucial election. The ability to provide digitized on-line video through our cable system demonstrates Comcast's commitment to new technologies that benefit our customers."
John Steele, president of Manhattan-based ESN, said, "It will be the first time a digital television service has gone on-line in a commercial market application. By bringing these industry leaders together, we can deliver today the information services and technologies that are the promise of the coming digital revolution."
An open demonstration of the ESN media network will take place on Thursday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m., at the Reuters Television New York offices located at 630 Fifth Ave., 7th floor.
