COLUMBIA HOSPITAL CORPORATION SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT TO CONSOLIDATE
ONE OF ITS MIAMI HOSPITALS INTO MIAMI'S TEACHING HOSPITAL
FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Hospital Corporation (NASDAQ: CHOS) today announced an additional planned hospital consolidation in Miami.
Columbia executed a letter of intent to merge its 300-bed Victoria Hospital with 585-bed Cedars Medical Center, with both parties sharing ownership in the combined operations. Upon completion of this merger and the recently announced merger of Columbia's Miami Beach Community Hospital with Miami Heart Institute, Columbia's Miami/Fort Lauderdale health care network will consist of seven acute care hospitals with 2,357 total licensed beds and other outpatient facilities.
"Columbia provides the most comprehensive health care network in Miami," said Richard L. Scott, chairman and chief executive officer. "By providing high quality health care services in facilities conveniently located throughout the market, Columbia offers an attractive network to managed care companies."
"This will be our sixth hospital consolidation, and the third such consolidation in Miami," said David T. Vandewater, president and chief operating officer. "We realize significant operating efficiencies through these consolidations, while maintaining, and even expanding, the health care services provided to the community."
Columbia expects its third quarter results to be consistent with analyst expectations of $.20-$.22 per share and will report these results the week of Nov. 9, 1992.
Columbia Hospital Corporation was recently ranked the fourth fastest growing publicly owned company in the United States by Fortune magazine. Columbia operates comprehensive health care networks in five regions: El Paso, Houston, and Corpus Christi, Texas, and Miami and Fort Myers, Fla. These networks provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient health care services through the operation of general acute-care and specialty hospitals and a wide array of outpatient facilities.
