"We are pleased with the growth in patient volumes in 1993 over the same periods in 1992," said David T. Vandewater, president and chief operating officer. "We continue to see opportunities to increase patient volumes by adding new services and attracting new business at our existing facilities, and we are excited about the opportunities that exist in our pending merger with Galen Health Care, Inc."
Stephen T. Braun, vice president and general counsel, stated, "The shareholder date of record has been set for July 19, 1993, and the shareholder meeting is currently scheduled for Aug. 26, 1993."
"In moving one step closer to the anticipated merger," said Richard L. Scott, chairman and chief executive officer, "Columbia will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange, opening the morning of July 14, 1993, under the ticker symbol `COL'. We look forward to listing on the New York Stock Exchange, and anticipate a very smooth transition."
Columbia and Galen announced on June 10, 1993, that they had signed a definitive agreement to merge the two companies in order to benefit from the combined strengths. This merger will create one of the largest healthcare companies in the nation, beginning with 99 hospitals in 19 states, and over $5 billion in revenues in 1993. The closing of the proposed merger is presently scheduled for late August.
