COLORBUS introduces Cyclone OptiColor System.IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 1995--COLORBUS Inc. Tuesday announced the introduction of its new Cyclone OptiColor System, an advanced print server that utilizes Adobe Brilliant(TM) Screens, a Frequency Modulated (FM) screening technique, that produces high-end color results at greater-than-ever speeds. COLORBUS, manufacturer of the Cyclone ProColor System, a RISC-based high-speed network interface solution for color copiers and high-end color printers, is the first Adobe Configurable PostScript Interpreter developer to license and use this technology for color copiers and printers with less than 600 dpi resolution. "The Cyclone OptiColor System is one more step toward the goal of helping our customers communicate with color," said COLORBUS President Paul Peffer. "By teaming with companies such as Adobe to maximize the most advanced technology available, COLORBUS can continue to offer customers the best solutions for color copier output." The incorporation of the Adobe Brilliant Screens technology into state-of-the-art Cyclone capabilities increases system performance with significantly less memory than which was previously needed. Yet Adobe Brilliant Screens has no performance penalty -- the software runs at approximately the same break-neck speed as the previous generation. Adobe Brilliant Screens provide all the benefits of other FM screening methods, such as detail enhancement and moire Pronounced "mor-ray" and spelled "moiré." In computer graphics, a visible distortion. It results from a variety of conditions; for example, when scanning halftones at a resolution not consistent with the eventual printed resolution or when superimposing curved patterns on one elimination. This FM screening technology uses pixel clusters tuned to the device resolution which are pre-compensated for dot gain. FM screening technology differs from conventional screening methods in that it uses dots that are significantly smaller than conventional half-tone cells, resulting in enhanced detail. Since the smaller dots are not restricted to a fixed grid pattern, it eliminates moire patterns and smooths tonal gradations. The Cyclone OptiColor System is set to automatically activate the screening technique for A3 and 11" x 17" page sizes. These sizes gain the maximum performance quality form the FM technology. Letter size pages will use the copier's default contone-based imaging for size-specific high-end output results. Like the ProColor, the Cyclone OptiColor utilizes the new generation Silicon Graphics Indy desktop system and features Adobe's CPSI CPSI Computer Programs & Systems, Inc.
