Colon gave up one run and five hits and improved to 21-8, joining Nolan Ryan
Lynn Nolan Ryan, Jr. (born January 31, 1947) is a former American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played in a major league record 27 seasons for the New York Mets, California Angels, Houston Astros, and Texas Rangers, from to .
     (twice) and Clyde Wright
Clyde Wright (born February 20, 1941 in Jefferson City, Tennessee) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher.
A left-hander, Wright pitched for the California Angels (1966-73), Milwaukee Brewers (1974) and Texas Rangers (1975). He is the father of Jaret Wright.
as the only pitchers in Angels history to win as many as 21 in a season.

The Angels got home runs from Robb Quinlan Robb William Quinlan (born March 17, 1977 in St. Paul, Minnesota) is a Major League Baseball player. He currently plays third base for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Quinlan graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1999, obtaining a degree in marketing and communications.  and Jose Molina off A's starter Barry Zito Barry William Zito (born May 13 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada) is a starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. He previously played seven seasons with the Oakland Athletics.  on their way to their 92nd victory of the season, equaling last year's total. They've surpassed 92 wins only twice in club history, getting 93 in 1982 and 99 in 2002.

``I think his workout today was perfect,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia
Michael Lorri "Mike" Scioscia (born November 27 1958 in Morton, Pennsylvania) is a former catcher and current Major League Baseball manager. His last name is pronounced SO-shuh. He is often referred to by the nickname Sosh.
said of Colon. ``It was great he could come out with the win. We swung the bats well, it was a good day.''

Colon said his back is not 100 percent, but he's able to pitch through any discomfort. And now that his regular season is over, Colon seems to be the leading candidate to win the Cy Young award, which would make him only the second Angel to do so, joining Dean Chance (1964).

``I thought about it,'' Colon said through an interpreter. ``One of the things that made my thoughts easier was we were competing for something as a team. But yes, of course, I'm human, it comes into your mind.''

Scioscia said he feels Colon should be an easy choice for the award.

``I don't think there's much debate,'' Scioscia said. ``I think he's absolutely the Cy Young. There are a lot of candidates, but for what he's accomplished in getting us to the playoffs and being the lead dog, he's the one that deserves that.''

--Notes: The Angels moved John Lackey John Derran Lackey (born October 23, 1978, in Abilene, Texas) is a major league baseball starting pitcher from Abilene, Texas. He has played for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim his entire career.  up in the rotation to start tonight's game, which puts him on schedule to start Game 2 of the ALDS ALDS American League Division Series
      ALDS Automatic Lightning Detection System
      ALDS Advanced Laser Diode Simulator
      ALDS Armored Laser Detecting Set
ALDS Academy Lakes Day School (Academy at the Lakes)
      ALDS Application Layer Data Striping
. The Angels are confident in Colon and Lackey as their Games 1 and 2 starters, thanks to noticeable improvements from both from last season. Scioscia credited pitching coach Bud Black for the improvements both pitchers made. ``It wasn't a huge overhaul, it was simple,'' Scioscia said. ``John needed to change speeds more. Bart needed to get healthy and get his motion where it needed to be, to where he could finish pitches and use his lower half (of his body).'' If Lackey gets five strikeouts tonight, he'll become the first Angels pitcher in six years to get 200 in a season. Chuck Finley was the last to do it, getting exactly 200 in 1999. ...

Which team the Angels play in the ALDS could play a part in which pitchers they decide to start in Games 3 and 4. Ervin Santana (2-0, 3.18 ERA) and Jarrod Washburn (1-1, 2.35) have done well against the Yankees this season. Paul Byrd has done best against Boston (1-1, 2.46) and Cleveland (2-0, 2.08). Santana threw a shutout in his only start against the White Sox. Because of his experience and consistency, Byrd is likely to get one of the starts. Washburn probably will get the other one provided he doesn't have another flareup of tendinitis in his left forearm. ...

Vladimir Guerrero, Darin Erstad and Garret Anderson were not in the lineup Thursday for the second game in a row, but Scioscia said they would play tonight against the Rangers. ... Chone Figgins stole his 58th base Thursday, tying Scott Podsednik of the White Sox for the American League lead. ... Jeff Mathis singled in the eighth inning Thursday.
