COLLUM PERFORMS BEFORE HIS IDOLS AT GALA FOR RAY CHARLES.

Kody Collum, a visually impaired senior at Birmingham High School Birmingham High School is a public coeducational high school in the neighborhood/district of Lake Balboa in the San Fernando Valley section of the city of Los Angeles, California. The ceremony also marked the beginning of an effort to finance new playground equipment.

One thousand piggy banks were put up for ``adoption'' on Saturday to benefit the West Valley Boys & Girls Club, with Washington Mutual kicking off the event with a grant of $5,000.

Participants will have four weeks to plump up their pigs with loose change, dollar bills and checks. Once the pigs are ready, the fund-raiser will end with a festive ``Pig Round-up'' scheduled for early April.

Five local students were among 50 Southern California recipients of the Ronald McDonald House Charities/African American Future Achievers scholarship.

Lisa Wirsing of Granada Hills has been accepted into The American Musical and Dramatic Academy's 2003-04 performing arts program.
