The 11th-ranked Bruins (14-2, 4-1) have won 10 of their past 11 games. They shot 54.2 percent in the first half and led 31-17 at the half. Akognon came alive late and led a spirited run that saw Washington State cut the lead to two points at 58-56.

Afflalo had a team-high 18 points. Mata was solid again, but injured his right knee on a collision with Farmar under UCLA's basket in the second half. Hr is expected to have an MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

The Cougars cut the lead to six points at 39-33 on a Akognon 3-pointer with 13:38 left in the first half. UCLA responded with a 15-4 run - in which Afflalo made a 3-pointer from the baseline and a jumper from the baseline - for a 54-47 lead but couldn't put the game away at that point.

Washington State trailed 58-52 a basket by Weaver, who drove the lane and scored with 2:37 left. Ryan Wright missed a pair of free throws on the other end but he wasn't alone. UCLA shot 43.8 percent from the free-throw line.

UCLA coach Ben Howland juggled his lineup and gave Roll his first start at small forward. Farmar started at point guard and Afflalo at shooting guard.

Freshman point guard Collison didn't start, but he still got his share of minutes and made an immediate impact. Collison made his first shot, a 3-pointer, on an open look at the top of the arc to give UCLA a 14-7 lead.
