COLLEGES: CSUN HONORS SINGH BEFORE TIE WITH UCR.

Byline: Daily News

After a pregame ceremony to honor Jay Singh and with the family of the late Cal State Northridge men's soccer player looking on, the Matadors and visiting UC Riverside played to a 0-0 tie Saturday afternoon at Matador Field.

The tie was the third straight for the Matadors (4-2-4, 0-0-3) in Big West Conference play.

After a short delay in the start time to accommodate the arrival of the Singh family, a short ceremony took place to honor the family of the player, who died last Sunday. With representatives from each CSUN athletic team on hand, and with several full squads on the sidelines, the men's soccer teams welcomed the Singh family and escorted them to their seats.

A small tribute was set up near the bleachers, and head coach Terry Davila invited fans to join with the Matadors in laying flowers at the banner, which was already surrounded by flowers, letters, and posters in support of the Singh family and the men's soccer team. The UC Riverside captains presented a bouquet.

A moment of silence was held immediately before kickoff.

CSUN outshot UC Riverside (4-3-4, 1-1-2) 14-7, but could not score.

CSUN goalkeeper Kevin Guppy of CSUN had five saves.
