College-bound students and their parents can learn about financial aid options during free Cash for College workshops to be held today at 21 locations around Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , including several in the Valley.

Workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kennedy High School, 11254 Gothic Ave., Granada Hills; Mission College, 13356 Eldridge Ave., Mission Hills; and Monroe High School For other uses, see James Monroe High School.

Hahn developed the program three years ago. It operates in conjunction with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angles Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). During the workshops, financial aid experts will provide step-by-step instructions in several languages on filling out forms, including the U.S. Department of Education's free application for federal student aid and forms to verify grade point average for the Cal Grant program.

The deadline to apply for federal aid and state grants is March 2.

High school students who qualify for a Cal Grant can receive as much as $8,300 for college that does not have to be repaid. To get a grant, students must meet financial-need requirements and have a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

Students and their families should bring financial documents, such as federal income tax returns from 2004, W-2 forms or paycheck stubs stubs
